Chryso-cement

Chryso-cimentAround 90% of the world's production of chrysotile is used in making chryso-cement. Chrysotile fibre is mostly used in the construction sector as a component of pipes (ducts and channels for flow of water), and flat and corrugated sheets (used as covering for roofs, balconies, ceilings, exterior walls or partitions). Chryso-cement contains 10 to 15% of fibres, which permits it to be lighter and stronger than conventional concrete. In addition fibro-cements are resistant to, corrosion, wide variations in temperature and to micro-organisms. They don't crack, they won't burn and they allow water vapour to escape. The fibre used belongs to groups 3 to 7. Chryso-cement presents no real danger to human health because the fibre is encapsulated in the cement. There is no release of fibre into the ambient air.

Chryso-cement : A material of choice!

Tuyau A/CChrysotile-cement (asbestos-cement) materials require little energy to produce and are very durable!
They generate very little green house gases (Kyoto accord) and their prolonged life cycle contributes to sustainable development.
Example : roofing materials
The table herewith shows that energy content of an asbestos-cement (chryso-cement) tile is less than half of that of an asphalt shingle (index 152 vs 372). In addition, the life of chryso-cement is approximately 2 to 5 times greater than the asphalt shingle.
Conclusion : Over a life cycle of 100 years, the energy consumption of chryso-cement is 4 to 10 times less not counting the savings in materials and the reduction of wastes to burial sites!
