Special purpose textiles

Chrysotile fibres are long, flexible and strong. They may be spun and woven to make cords, cables and various textiles for industrial uses. Group 3 fibres (the longest fibres) are generally used when making textiles.

Being known as fire and heat resistant, chrysotile fibre is used in the making of industrial textiles for pump shaft packing or in the fabrication of clutch disks for high performance vehicles.

Chrysotile textiles are used in the aeronautical and naval industries, chiefly in woven friction materials, plastic laminates and for thermal and electrical insulation.

A final sector where chrysotile is used is in nuclear industry. The fibre plays a role in thermal insulation of circuits exposed to radiation or is used in the fabrication of seals for steam pipes.
